Princeton Brain Bio Center:
• Measured trace metals in blood and food samples using atomic absorption spectroscopy.
• Measured polyamine levels in blood using column chromatography and fluorimetry.
Rutgers University Chemistry Department:
• Created 3-dimensional graphs of scientific data using a Unix-based VAX-780 computer system.
Academic Research Performed:
1. Rutgers Psychology Department Undergraduate Research Project
Advisor: Authur Tomie, Ph.D.
• Studied behavioral cross-tolerance between phencyclidine and SKF-10047 in the rat based on lever press response rates.
• Simultaneously measured force and dansylaziridine-labeled troponin C fluorescence in skinned rabbit muscle fibers.
• Demonstrated that the decrease in muscle force due to decreased pH is directly due to action at the calcium-specific regulatory binding sites of troponin C.
2. University of Miami Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology Department
Advisor: James Potter, Ph.D.
• Measured single cell calcium responses in vascular endothelial cells using the fluorescent calcium indicator fura-2.
• Demonstrated caffeine-sensitive calcium release and block by ryanodine.
• Examined stimulation of extracellular calcium entry by using manganese fura-2 fluorescence quench.
• Modeled cell calcium handling in endothelial cells using averaged whole cell data as well as single cell localized imaging data.
3. University of Miami Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology Department
Advisor: David Adams, Ph.D.
• Automated clinical chemistry assay and immunoassay development including FDA 510(k) and proficiency survey data collection and submission.
• Provide customer support and training for assay applications using the Awareness Technology ChemWell line of automated clinical analyzers.
• Custom software implementation testing and validation for automated instruments.
• Process development (cell culture and liquid chromatography) for the purification of natural human interferon.
• Ran and optimized ELISAs and bioassays for human interferon and process contaminates.
• Conducted final product formulation and stability studies.
